The Caspy port-logistics company was created for realization of the same-named large-scale infrustructure project on construction and operation of a new multifunctional port-logistics complex which is located on the territory of the Special Economic Port Zone in the Liman district of the Astrakhan region. Cargo turnover of the complex by 2050 is expected to be about 19 million tons of cargo.
The Caspy port-logistics complex will be located in the center of the International North-South Transport Corridor (hereinafter — INSTC), created on the initiative of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation to strengthen foreign economic relations with the countries of the Caspian Sea region, the Persian Gulf, East Africa and Southeast Asia. The development of INSTC can also become an alternative to the Suez Canal, a secure, accessible and geographically short sea route for the delivery of goods from Europe to Asia.
The expansion of port capacity in the Caspian Sea will have a synergistic effect on the development of adjacent industrial and agricultural sectors. It will contribute to a multiple increase of domestic and export trade turnover, will ensure a stable pace of social and economic development of the Astrakhan region in particular and Russia in general as well.
